Today there's so many fast places to eat that we forget how to go back to the family table. Everything is needed fast and conveniant now anyway due to our rapidly changing lifestyles that take a toll on our health since we don't pay attention to what we consume. There's so many weight loss articles and weight loss products that we buy 100 to a 1000 things and we forget to eat. There are some whole basics that makes great food alternatives to the fat that you are already eating anywhere from 0 to 150 calories per serving.

Lentils were the basis of every food source from the middle east to Persia. Persians have adapted many varieties of cuisines in their diet that have Lentils as the main source of protein and they are full of every type of nourishment that your body needs. The most basic way of eating Lentils is in a soup. Many people like to put a small dollop of light sour cream on their soup for some extra energy.

Couscous is a type of rice you can find in many health food stores and some grocery stores like Winn-Dixie or Wal-mart. The rice comes from also the Biblical lands and was used as a staple when feeding families. The United Nations distributes both lentils and Couscous to individuals in poor rural areas as a natural supply. Supplies in our country cost more because supplies of imports is limited. You can find the small round grain and the calories aren't as high as some long grain rices. Add some spices and you got a great meal with some lentils.

Using horseradish when making a sandwich can take at least 200 calories and add some kick to a roast beef sandwich or a plain BLT sandwich. Simply use Flatbread and mustard and load the sandwich down with some healthy veggies and you got an awesome sandwich with less calories than a subway or any other sandwich you may think of.

Curry, Tumeric and garlic are great additions to soups and main dishes without sacrificing taste. I got these ideas believe it or not from a "Weekly World News" about 20 years ago when I was a teen trying to lose some weight. I have talked online to many Indian people who also just use the herbs for medicine. There are soups that will make your mouth water just thinking about them like Lentil Soups and soup recipes from India, Middle East, and Israel. Cinnamon can really make you lose retained water by just drinking it as a tea. One night, I didn't want to drink black pekoe or green tea because I wanted to sleep. I spent all night dispersing fluid instead of sleeping. I had noticed before there were cinnamon tablets for weight loss. Always consult your doctor before trying anything because if you have medical problems losing too much fluid might make you lightheaded. It's best if you adapt it in your diet like a poached pear, a baked apple or something simple with splenda not sugar. It's easy to enjoy the taste of cinnamon. Sometimes I actually crave it, especially for breakfast.
